How To Make An Order
Main Points:
(Skip to MAIN POINTS IN DETAIL).
Please ensure you have CONTACTED me before doing anything.
Also, please read all of this document thoroughly and (optionally) print out several FORMS I have created to make life easier for you.
Make sure you know about the DISCOUNTS schemes I run (e.g., first time customers) - and tell me about them.
If I agree to do the work, you will need to send me a copy of the music.
A CD or tape is still the best way because it is the best quality, so snail mail is best. Unless you specify otherwise, I will return this to you when the job has been finished.
If you are making an order on the either the FLAT-RATE FOR EASY PIECES, or the FLAT-RATE FOR DIFFICULT PIECES basis, you will need to pay the applicable flat-rate fee that we have mutually agreed.
To do so now, click HERE.
After that you can put your feet up and wait for your score to arrive!
If you are making an order on the either the FLAT-RATE FEE FOR EASY PIECES, or the FLAT-RATE FEE FOR DIFFICULT PIECES basis, then you will still need to OK things first, and still need to send me a CD or tape of the music. You will also need to keep the following points in mind:-
• After making a provisional estimate, I will then send you a reply, also returning the tape or CD, (this usually takes a few days), either confirming or amending your own estimate - if one has been supplied.
• I may reply by e-mail explaining that I can return your CD or tape now or later if you order a transcription.
• You are under no obligation to make an order, and no charge will be made for the estimate.
• If the price estimate is right you will need to send me some up front money before I can start on your score - this need not be the entire amount, I will probably suggest something, say ½ of the initial estimate.
• As soon as I receive your cheque or PayPal payment I will start work!
Main Points In Detail
First go to the 'Contact Me' page, to make sure I'm available and can take on new work.If I am available and can take on new work, please note the points in the following list.
- I almost certainly don't have a copy of your music, so you will need to send me a copy of it.
Make a tape, CD or mp3 file; if sending me a file via e-mail please tell me first, and please make it a small but representative file excerpt.
IMPORTANT: I will refund your initial 'enquiry' postal costs if you order a transcription from me - you have nothing to lose!
Try to make the tape or CD as clear a recording as clear as possible.
A good tape recording from an original CD is perfectly fine, an original CD even better, and a *.wav file saved to CD or 100 Mb Iomega Zip disk is great, but a clean tape recording usually suffices!
- Please supply me with precise written instructions as to which part of the track(s) should be transcribed.
I have supplied you with several FORMS to help with this, just follow the links, print them out, fill them in, and mail them to me with your tape or CD.
- If you require different sections of the same track transcribing, please record these different sections separately, as well as recording the whole track for context, and remember to enclose a letter or note, explaining precisely what you want.
It will be a good idea for you to keep a copy of this note, as well as of the tape.
- It is especially useful to know of any unusual tunings or detunings - if you know them - or if you don't know such details, what you think the first note of the track is. This will help in the event of a mismatch between the speeds of our tape decks...
Print out THIS form, it is designed to help with this issue.
- Please also include any Composer and Title details as you would like them to appear on your transcription.
- Once we are both certain I can do the work and we agree a mutually acceptable provisional price, I will start work once you send me about ½ of this initial estimate. Click HERE to find out how to pay me.
- Make sure you have tell me about any DISCOUNTS that might apply (e.g., first time customers).
You may also wish to print out and send me 3 forms I have created (you don't absolutely need to do this, but it helps sometimes):
FORM 1 [To say if you need Standard Notation, or Tab or both, or other options]
FORM 2 [To let me know other details, such as the key of the piece (if you know it), use of capo etc]
FORM 3 [For if you wish to take advantage of my easy payments scheme]
